GIRLS SOCCER: Arbor View’s Haylee Niemann sets state shutout record

Arbor View junior goalkeeper Haylee Niemann made four saves Tuesday and set the state record for career shutouts as the Aggies’ girls soccer team blanked visiting Desert Oasis 9-0.

“I didn’t know about the record until I saw the tweet over the weekend,” Niemann said. “But sometimes there can be added pressure, because I worry about getting scored on, or if I have a bad game. I just know I can’t think about that.”

Niemann now has 31 career shutouts, surpassing Caitlin Anderson of Galena (2002 to 2005) and Douglas’ Ashley Salprizio (1998 to 2000), according to the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association record book.

“She’s really embraced her role, especially her freshman year, but sticking through everything since then, it’s really shown her character and what she’s made of,” Arbor View coach Jay Howard said. “Where it grew most, was the state finals her first season, she played her best game. She had some great saves early on and I think from that moment on she’s been at a different level.”

Hannah Ferrara scored three goals for the Aggies.

Sierra Vincente had a goal and two assists, and teammates Deja Erickson and Poppy Cartledge each added a goal and an assist to spark Arbor View.

Bonanza 1, Liberty 1 — At Bonanza, Jordyn Peters scored a second-half goal to help the Patriots tie the Bengals.

Shayne Dunn scored for Bonanza off an assist by Ashley Vasquez.

Basic 3, Sunrise Mountain 1 — At Sunrise Mountain, Sydnie Hopkins finished with two goals and an assist to lead the Wolves past the Miners.

Heavyn Lopez had a goal, and Allyson Lieber added an assist for Basic, which led 1-0 at halftime.

Faith Lutheran 7, Canyon Springs 0 — At Canyon Springs, Megan Donnelly scored twice as the Crusaders defeated the Pioneers.

Maggie Shuirman added a goal and two assists, and Madison Sonnerholm and Megan Sonnerholm each had a goal and an assist for Faith Lutheran.

Mary Martinez and Kadyn Lane also scored for the Crusaders.

Beka Lescenski and Naia Mesalic combined on the shutout.

Cheyenne 8, Valley 1 — At Cheyenne, Yadira Erives had four goals and three assists as the Desert Shields routed the Vikings.

Isel Acosta and Maria Borrero each added two goals, and Mya Heard had three assists for Cheyenne.

Cassandra Calzada scored on a penalty kick for Valley.

Western 2, Clark 2 — At Western, Dona Acierto and Jackie Gonzalez scored second-half goals to help the Chargers earn a tie against the Warriors.

Ellyson Reynada and Heyddy Paiz had goals for Western, which led 1-0 at halftime.

Areli Valenzuela added an assist for Clark.

Bishop Gorman 10, Desert Pines 1 — At Bishop Gorman, Hannah Borgel had two goals and three assists, and Arlie Jones scored twice and added a pair of assists as the Gaels beat the Jaguars.

Jaden Terrana had two goals, and Tavin Hays, Kevyn Hillegas, Norina Romo and Kate Swanis each scored for Gorman.

Lizuly Mireles scored for Desert Pines.

Foothill 6, Las Vegas 1 — At Las Vegas, Jessica Carnahan had two goals as the Falcons ran by the Wildcats.

Amber Risheg, Amanda Carducci, Paityn Toohey and Brooke Vokoun also scored for Foothill.

Brinkley McCoy had the lone goal for Las Vegas.

Green Valley 9, Legacy 1 — At Green Valley, Alexis Kirson had six goals and an assist to power the Gators to an easy win over the Longhorns.

Maggie Bender, Isabel Madrid and Emberly Sevilla each added a goal, and Chela Anglin supplied two assists for Green Valley, which led 5-1 at halftime.

Emma Singleton scored on an assist from Gabriella Lancaster for Legacy.
