SOFTBALL: Manthei, Vikings shut down Wildcats

Kristina Manthei threw a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts Wednesday to lead Valley’s softball team to a 6-1 road win over Las Vegas.

Manthei also went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBIs for the Vikings.

Shannon Williams added an RBI double for Valley, which scored five runs in the top of the sixth to push its lead to 6-0.

Boulder City 13, Sunrise Mountain 0 — At Sunrise Mountain, Charlene Masterson fired a three-hitter with 15 strikeouts and went 2-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs to lift the Eagles past the Miners.

Kylee Hamel was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, and Bryanna Lopez finished 2-for-4 and drove in a run for Boulder City. The Eagles led 8-0 after six innings and tacked on five runs in the top of the seventh.

Brittany Miller had two of Sunrise Mountain’s three hits. Losing pitcher Andrea Garner went the distance and struck out eight while walking only one batter.

Palo Verde 12, Durango 0 — At Durango, three pitchers combined on a three-hitter as the Panthers beat the Trailblazers in five innings.

McKenzie McBride was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Palo Verde offense.

Makall Whitten went 2-for-2 with a solo homer, and Dejanae Gage added a triple, a double and two RBIs for the Panthers, who scored seven runs in the fourth inning to pull away.

Chaparral 10, Virgin Valley 7 — At Chaparral, winning pitcher Losi Brown tossed a complete game and added a double at the plate to lead the Cowboys over the Bulldogs.

Ellie Horton supplied a double and a run for Chaparral, which overcame a 5-0 deficit after two innings.

Tylee Robison and Janella Fiso each supplied two hits to pace Virgin Valley.

Silverado 23, Canyon Springs 4 — At Canyon Springs, Karissa Jones went 3-for-3, and Alessandra Ponce hit a two-run triple to help the Skyhawks rout the Pioneers in five innings.

Silverado took advantage of 11 errors by Canyon Springs.

Emilee Kaye had a two-run triple for Canyon Springs.

Moapa Valley 18, Desert Pines 0 — At Overton, Daesha Stastny fired a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs as the Pirates rolled the Jaguars in five innings.

Kyla Shumway went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two triples and two RBIs, and Mercedes Gale was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs for Moapa Valley, had 10 doubles among its 17 hits.
