ROUNDUP: Bishop Gorman blitzes to title in Arizona tourney

Erik Van Meetren went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run Saturday to lead Bishop Gorman’s baseball team to a 12-3 win over Tucson (Ariz.) in the championship game of the Cherry Field Classic in Tucson.
Tyler Wagner also went 2-for-3 for the Gaels, who overcame an early 2-0 deficit by scoring four runs in the third inning and seven more in the fourth.
Jeff Malm struck out nine in six innings. All three Tucson runs were unearned.
Las Vegas 6, Niwot (Colo.) 5 — At Las Vegas, Bryce Harper tripled with one out in the eighth inning and scored on Trevor Lowe’s sacrifice fly to lead the Wildcats past Niwot.
Las Vegas, which trailed 4-0 in the third inning, rallied to tie the game with a run in the bottom of the seventh.
Tim Daniels reached on a fielder’s choice and scored from first with two outs when Wes Grass’ fly ball to center field was dropped.
Harper finished 3-for-4 with an RBI. Brig Jensen also had two hits and an RBI for Las Vegas.
Chaparral 16, Bishop Gorman JV Blue 6 — At Chaparral, Ricky Perez and Joel Benavides each had four RBIs, and the Cowboys scored 12 runs in the second inning to pull away for a win in the Cowboy Classic tournament.
Benavides went 2-for-3 for Chaparral. Perez was 2-for-4 with a double, and Raul Jimenez added a triple for Chaparral.
Bishop Gorman JV Orange 9, Chaparral 4 — At Chaparral, Gorman’s JV Orange team overcame a 4-1 deficit after two innings to defeat the host school in the Cowboy Classic.
C.J. Crone went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs for Chaparral.
Bishop Gorman JV Orange 16, Tech 7 — At Chaparral, Gorman’s JV Orange team rolled to a win in the opening game of the Cowboy Classic.
Arbor View 8, Foothill 2 — At the College of Southern Nevada, Josh Arnold went 2-for-4 with a triple, and Arbor View posted five runs in the second inning on its way to a win over Foothill.
 
Jacob Badger also went 2-for-4 for the Aggies.
 
Buddy Borden and Arnold combined on a six-hitter with Borden striking out eight.
