Windy weather continues Thursday in the Las Vegas Valley

Updated October 10, 2019 - 9:51 pm

A strong cold front moved through the Las Vegas Valley overnight, bringing gusty winds and cooler temperatures.

McCarran International Airport reported wind gusts of 53 mph at the highest, National Weather Service meteorologist Trevor Boucher said Thursday night. Other parts of the valley saw wind gusts in the mid to high 40s.

But the wind will die down overnight and into Friday morning after a wind advisory for the valley expired at 5 p.m., Boucher said. Friday should only see winds of 7 to 12 mph.

Cooler temperatures have arrived as well.

Thursday saw a high of 68 in the valley, 15 degrees under the normal temperature of 83 for this time of year. Temperatures overnight on Thursday will plummet to 47 degrees, Boucher said.

Friday will remain cool with the high near 72 and clear skies.

“It will warm up for a pretty nice weekend, but without the winds,” meteorologist Andy Gorelow said.

Saturday’s high will be 78 with Sunday’s forecast calling for highs in the low 80s. Temperatures will increase to the mid 80s by the beginning of the next workweek.

Mount Charleston will see highs in the upper 50s this weekend, while overnight temperatures for the valley will stay in the high 40s to mid 50s.
