Man killed in crash east of Strip

One man was killed after a crash near the Las Vegas Strip on Friday night.

The collision occurred around 10:52 p.m. on East Desert Inn Road east of Channel Eight Drive, according to a Metropolitan Police Department news release.

Police said evidence and video surveillance indicated that a 2006 Infiniti G 35 traveling eastbound on Desert Inn approached an SUV ahead of it at a faster speed, then swerved to avoid a collision and struck the SUV, police said. The Infiniti rotated and drifted into a roadside attenuator, where it overturned, with one of the passengers being ejected.

The ejected passenger was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver and another passenger in the Infiniti were transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with moderate to substantial injuries. The Infiniti’s driver did not show signs of impairment, police said.

The SUV failed to remain at the scene of the collision and fled eastbound on Desert Inn, police said.

The passenger’s death marks the 103rd traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.

The collision remained under investigation by Metro’s Collision Investigation Section.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section at 702-828-3595. Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can also call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555, go to www.crimestoppersof NV.com, or use the mobile app “P3.”
