Coroner’s office identifies burglar shot by police

A suspected burglar who died after being shot by police Thursday was identified Monday by the Clark County coroner's office as 21-year-old Jaime Padilla.

Padilla, of Las Vegas, died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the coroner's office.

Las Vegas police said the shooting occurred early Thursday shortly after midnight at the Broadstone Montecito apartments, at 9745 Grand Canyon Drive in the northwest valley.

Police responded after learning of a man with a gun trying to break into apartments. A standoff lasted about an hour between police and Padilla.

Four SWAT officers who exchanged gunfire with Padilla were placed on routine paid administrative leave for using their weapons on duty.

The officers are Dave Reid, 50, who has 24 years of experience with the department; Anton Gorup, 42, with 16 years of experience; Leaareon Fincher, 44, 15 years of experience; and William Marx, 40, 13 years of experience.

Padilla, who reportedly shot at police first, died at the scene.
