Caliendo calls it quits

Comic impressionist Frank Caliendo will pull the plug on his Monte Carlo residency next spring, cutting short what originally was touted as a 10-year deal after about 17 months.

"(T)he demands of traveling from Phoenix and away from my family have been harder than I anticipated," Caliendo said in a statement. "With this move, I hope to take advantage of opportunities in television and film that will allow me to spend more time as a husband and a father."

Caliendo will remain at least through mid-March, and he may stay until the end of April if MGM Resorts needs more time to book a replacement, said Bill Blumenreich, the Boston-based producer of the show.

Blumenreich said Caliendo was doing solid business and wants to keep working in Las Vegas, but grew weary of air travel back and forth. He would like to do several weekends per year, Blumenreich said, the model of semiregular headliners such as Ray Romano, David Spade and Ron White.
