Shuffle Master calls for a cease-fire

The legal hostilities have ceased somewhat between Shuffle Master and Elixir Gaming, the company formerly known as Vending Data Corp.

The companies announced Tuesday that Shuffle Master had dropped an appeal related to a patent infringement lawsuit over automated card shufflers.

The decision means a U.S. District Court judgment in favor of Elixir stands. The company can now pursue a claim for damages and attorneys’ fees, which could total several million dollars.

Shuffle Master has been cutting expenses. Ongoing legal costs might outweigh damages the company may owe Elixir.

Also, Elixir is no longer in the card shuffler business, which makes all the legal maneuvers somewhat silly.
