Great Santa Run scheduled for Saturday

The Las Vegas Great Santa Run, a 5K fun run-walk to raise money for Opportunity Village, will take place downtown on Saturday.

Registration, entertainment and a welcome from Mayor Oscar Goodman will begin at 8 a.m. at the Third Street Stage at the Fremont Street Experience.

The Great Santa Run and the Kris Kringle Jingle one-mile walk will begin at 10 a.m.

The event also is trying to break the world record for the largest gathering of Santas, and a five-piece Santa suit is included in the registration fee.

Registration is $45 for adults, $25 for children 12 and under today through noon at www.opportunityvillage.org or through 5 p.m. via fax at 259-3735. Saturday's registration fee is $75.

Family fun day set at Guggenheim Hermitage

The Guggenheim Hermitage Museum is sponsoring a day of family fun Saturday at the museum.

A treasure hunt, sticker booklet and art activities for children will be offered from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Admission for families of up to two adults and up to four children, 18 and under, is $22.

The museum is located at The Venetian, 3355 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Maggie Smith, the actor who won an Oscar for “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” in 1969 and gained new fans in the 21st century as the dowager Countess of Grantham in “Downton Abbey” and Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter films, died Friday.
