2017 124 Spider lives up to expectations at Findlay Fiat
The buzz around Findlay Fiat Alfa Romeo was building a few weeks ago for the arrival of the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider. The dealership is situated at 210 Gibson Road in the Valley Automall.
As expected, the return after nearly 30 years lived up to expectations for the vehicle hailed by Americans as “the most affordable sports car of its time,” according to Motor Trend Magazine.
With a rich history dating to 1966, the Spider joined the U.S. market in 1968 to record 175,000 sales before production was ended in 1985. Without question, Fiat was attempting to recapture its past glory, and the two-seat convertible is certainly living up to its billing according to the staff at Findlay Fiat Alfa Romeo.
All-new, flashy and peppy, the 124 Spider includes several design elements of yesteryear including side silhouette and fender surfaces, wide hexagon-shaped upper grill, double-groove imprint on the hood and horizontal tail lamps and boxy rear end.
The 124 Spider is available in four models including the Classica, Lusso, Abarth and the limited-edition Prima model.
The powertrain is highlighted by a 1.4-liter 160-horsepower, four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 184 pounds of torque. The package produces excellent midrange torque for passing and traffic driving.
A six-speed automatic transmission completes the performance package with fuel economy of up to 25 city and 35 highway.
The multifaceted 124 Spider also comes with an impressive list of contemporary safety features that includes rearview camera with park assist and rear cross-path detection along with a high-strength body, front and side air bags and seat belts and adaptive forward lighting system, a system intended to help drivers observe objects earlier than they otherwise would when entering a corner in darkness to prevent night accidents inside a curve or in turning situations.
The 124 Spider also has double-wishbone front suspension, electric power assist (dual-pinion) steering, aluminum power plant frame and rear multilink suspension.
“Fiat has really expanded our sales offering with more models, including the Fiat 124 Spider,” said dealership internet manager Christopher Preciado. “The Spider is leading the way and it’s simply exciting to have it in the showroom. In fact, we are having fun with the car even on test drives. Our buyer profile ranges from young twentysomethings to a more seasoned clientele who are enjoying their retirement years. It’s a multifaceted vehicle, for sure.”
