Allegiant Air has served Las Vegas and resort cities in Florida for a long time.
But by fall, the Las Vegas-based deep-discount air carrier will link them for the first time, inaugurating service between McCarran International Airport and Destin, Florida, the home of Fort Walton Beach.
The new Florida flights were among 12 new routes and three new cities unveiled on Tuesday by Allegiant. Among the new cities on the airline’s route map: New York City, via Newark, New Jersey’s Liberty International Airport, and Denver with Dec. 14 to March 25 seasonal service to Montrose, Colorado, which has eight ski resorts within a three-hour drive.
“This is a very exciting day for Allegiant as we expand our low-cost, nonstop service to three new communities including the addition of New York City,” Jude Bricker, Allegiant’s chief operating officer, said in a statement announcing the expansion. “These 12 new routes begin just in time for the holiday travel season and we know that millions of passengers will be taking advantage of our service to take affordable and convenient vacations this year that they would otherwise be unable to take.”
The route to Destin, located on the Florida panhandle near Pensacola, is scheduled to begin Oct. 7 with introductory fares of $69 one way. Allegiant will serve the route with 166-passenger MD-80 twin-engine jets. Service to Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport will be offered twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays.
In addition to New York and Denver, Allegiant is adding Ogdensburg, New York, to its route map. Ogdensburg is in upstate New York on the St. Lawrence River, south of the Canadian capital, Ottawa.
From Newark, Allegiant will begin routes to Cincinnati and Savannah, Georgia, on Nov. 16, and Asheville, North Carolina, and Knoxville, Tennessee on Nov. 17.
Ogdensburg will get service to Orlando’s Sanford International Airport on Oct. 5 and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, Florida, International Airport on Oct. 6.
Allegiant also is adding nonstop service between San Diego International Airport and Provo, Utah, on Sept. 28; Punta Gorda Airport in Florida to Concord, North Carolina, on Oct. 5; and Los Angeles International Airport to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Oakland International Airport to El Paso, Texas, on Oct. 6.
The company also is expanding other existing seasonal routes.
