Mercury-News tracks former Fry’s exec’s movements
The San Jose Mercury-News sent a reporter to Las Vegas last week to track the movements of a former Fry’s Electronics executive, alleged by federal authorities to have defrauded the company out of $65 million.
Much of the money was reportedly used to pay back gambling losses upward of $120 million over three years at several Strip casinos, including the MGM Grand and The Venetian.
One Venetian floor supervisor told reporter Patrick May he remembered seeing Omar Siddiqui regularly show up at the resort’s private gambling salon. That was the only confirmed sighting May could find. Spokesmen for the casino companies wouldn’t comment about the case.
A Las Vegas legal source said the casinos most likely wouldn’t have to pay back the money that Siddiqui used to pay off his markers unless it could be proven gaming executives knew the funds were embezzled.
