Nevada gaming regulator: ‘I’ve got nothing against Internet gambling’
Nevada Gaming Control Board Member Randall Sayre said he isn’t opposed to online wagering.
“I’ve got nothing against Internet gambling. I have no dog in the fight with regards to whether it’s good or bad,” Sayre told GamblingCompliance, an online publication based in the United Kingdom which covers the casino industry. “But I do know the issue is large enough and the commercial playing field is currently unlevel enough for our Nevada licensees.”
State gaming regulators are investigating the partnership between Harrah’s Entertainment and British online gaming company 888. Through its subsidiary, Dragonfish, 888 is providing the software for Harrah’s to manage its online casinos that are based in England, but do not accept wagers from American gamblers.
Sayre said Nevada could become a licensing hub if online gaming is legalized in the U.S.
“I think we are well positioned to respond to the landscape if it changes,” Sayre said.
