Core grades site for five-story Public Works Board building
Core Construction is grading the site for a five-story office building and three-story parking garage for the Nevada State Public Works Board at 215 E. Bonanza Road. The office will be home to the state’s parole and probation division.
The $26.8 million project, scheduled for completion in September 2009, will have a concrete foundation precast parking garage and 84,800-square-foot structural steel office building above it, Core President Gary Siroky said.
Work started in early March with demolition of an existing structure. Masons removed a time capsule that was cemented in the original building constructed in 1954. It will be opened when the new building is finished.
SH Architecture, the architect of record, won the 2006 Nevada Design Award from the American Institute of Architects for its work on the project, known as the Campos Office Building.
The parking garage and column layout allows the project to make the most of its downtown site constraints, Siroky said. SH also considered the harsh desert climate by incorporating sun-shade devices, energy-efficient glazed windows and low-water use plumbing fixtures and landscaping.
