Allegiant reports improved numbers in August from 2011

Passenger count, revenue passenger miles and several other indicators rose in August for Las Vegas-based Alllegiant Travel Co., the company said on Monday.

The company, parent of Allegiant Air, reported that the passenger count rose on scheduled flights 14.3 percent, from 478,518 last August to 547,144 this year. Revenue passenger miles also rose, climbing 17.6 percent, from 439,408 to 516,848.

Allegiant Air’s load factor, or occupancy of its flights, dropped 1.7 percentage points to 90.6 percent from 92.3 percent in the same August-to-August comparison as the airline added seats faster than it filled them.

Departures grew as well, up 9.6 percent. There were 3,493 departures in August 2011, compared with 3,827 this year.

Shares of Allegiant Travel Co., which trades as ALGT on the Nasdaq, fell 67 cents, or 1.01 percent, to close at 65.69 on Monday.
