Nevada Commission on Tourism expands to 15 members

The Nevada Commission on Tourism has grown.

During the most recent legislative session Senate Bill 48 was approved, which revised the composition of the commission to include as nonvoting ex-officio members, the chairs of the boards that represent other agencies within the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. The new commissioners are Bob Ostrovsky, chair of the Commission for Cultural Affairs; Bob Stodal, chair of the board of museums and history; Richard Arnold, chair of the Nevada Indian Commission; and Tim Jones, chair of the Board of the Nevada Arts Council.

This new law brings the total commission to 15 members.

Commissioner Tim Jones attended his first and last meeting Wednesday afternoon. After a five-year stint, Jones has been termed out of the council.

“This is both my introductory meeting and my swan song all in one,” Jones said.

Lt. Governor Brian Krolicki said, “That could be the shortest (tenure) ever.”

Jones will be replaced by Julie Arger from Reno.

Also, commissioners briefly discussed approval of Assembly Bill 447, which revised provisions relating to roadside rest areas. One new aspect is that the areas now can be used to promote tourism in a more unified manner.
