Arizona man faces trial in 1982 body parts case

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A man charged with killing and dismembering his fiancée faces trial today, 29 years after the body parts began washing up on the Arizona side of the Colorado River.

Jimmie Joe Cox, 73, of Needles, Calif., is charged with first-degree murder in the 1982 death of 25-year-old Carole Spearman.

Cox was arrested in May 2010 while still living in the same house in Needles where authorities say he killed and dismembered Spearman. Cox faces a prison sentence of 25 years to life if convicted during the trial in Barstow, Calif.
