Man dies in shooting in northeast valley
A man was fatally shot Thursday in the northeast valley, Las Vegas police said.
Lt. Les Lane said police received the call at 7:24 p.m. about the shooting on the 5600 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard near Nellis Boulevard. A man visiting relatives was confronted and shot by a suspect who fled east on Lake Mead.
Lane said the man was alive when paramedics arrived but died a short time later.
Homicide Lt. Lew Roberts said the victim was found in the middle of the road. The suspect has not been arrested and no motive has been determined, he said.
The shooting is the third in that area since Tuesday night. At 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, Sgt. David Toney, 44, was conducting a routine check and walked into The Bar, 1987 N. Nellis Blvd., near East Lake Mead Boulevard. Police said patron Mauricio Hernandez, 23, saw Toney and fired at him. Toney fired back. Hernandez died at the scene.
Police are investigating whether Hernandez was connected to an earlier shooting Tuesday of a man at his home near Lake Mead and Lamb boulevards.
Toney has been placed on paid administrative leave. He has been with the department since 1999 and was assigned to the Northeast Area Command.
