Two women plead not guilty in mugging death of 95-year-old

Two Las Vegas women pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges stemming from allegations that they tried to mug a 95-year-old woman, resulting in injuries leading to her death.

Teresa Meamber, 30, and Kierstie Manning, 19, face four felonies, including murder of a victim 60 years or older, attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and performance of an act in willful or wanton disregard of safety of a person for the death of Bertha “Bert” Meier.

Authorities say Meamber and Manning attempted to rob Meier about 9:45 a.m. July 26 outside a Smith’s supermarket near Desert Inn Road and Decatur Boulevard to get money to bail Manning’s boyfriend out of jail.

As the two women drove through the Smith’s parking lot, Manning grabbed Meier’s purse, Las Vegas police said.

But Meier wouldn’t let go, and she was dragged by the vehicle as Manning and Meamber tried to flee, police said. The incident was captured by the supermarket’s parking lot surveillance cameras.

Meier’s hip was shattered in the attack. She died Aug. 16 from her injuries.
