Woman admits making false bomb threat
A 26-year-old Las Vegas woman pleaded guilty to a felony Tuesday for making a false bomb threat on Sept. 11, 2010.
Miki Sudo was indicted in May on one count of intentionally conveying false and misleading information. She pleaded guilty Tuesday.
U.S. District Judge Kent Dawson is scheduled to sentence Sudo, who is not in custody, on May 30.
Prosecutors have agreed to recommend probation with 10 months of home confinement.
According to the indictment, Sudo alleged her boyfriend, a passenger on US Airways Flight 399 from Las Vegas to Phoenix, was going to “blow up the plane.”
About 10 minutes after the flight left McCarran International Airport, the pilot reported a mechanical problem.
As the plane was returning to the airport, the pilot received information about the bomb threat.
The plane landed at McCarran and was diverted to a secure area, where all of the passengers were required to deplane and undergo screening.
The checked baggage also was emptied from the plane and screened to ensure that no explosives were on board.
According to the defendant’s plea memorandum, “Sudo admits that she made the statement about her boyfriend intending to blow up the plane because she was mad at him because he had not paid her for the ticket and that he had not expressed any intention of blowing up the plane.”
In court on Tuesday, Sudo said she recently graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
A UNLV spokeswoman said Sudo studied international business and graduated in January with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
