Homicide investigation underway in east valley

Updated March 20, 2020 - 11:47 pm

Las Vegas police say a person who was shot Friday afternoon in a neighborhood of apartment buildings in the northwest valley drove several blocks before collapsing in a parking lot.

Stepping away from a crime scene in the 4700 block of East Craig Road, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Ray Spencer said the person, described only as a black male, died from gunshot wounds at a Las Vegas hospital.

Police were initially called when at about 5 p.m. Friday dispatchers received an alert from the agency’s ShotSpotter, a technology that detects gunshots in certain places in the valley, of shots fired on Thunderbolt Avenue.

Spencer said officers arrived and were told the shooting victim left the area in a Mustang. Officers found the Mustang parked in front of convenience store in the 4700 block of East Craig Road. There, Spencer said, officers found him collapsed on the ground.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died, Spencer said.

Police had not identified any suspects in the homicide case as of about 8 p.m. Friday.
