Las Vegas shooting victim: Jordyn Rivera, La Verne, California
The day before she died, 21-year-old Jordyn Rivera told her mother that she had lived a full life, without regrets.
“Little did she know those words would be prophetic,” Rivera’s family said in a statement on Friday.
Rivera, of La Verne, California, was killed Sunday in the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas.
Mike Schrader said he has known Rivera and her parents, Albert and Mary Rivera, for more than 17 years.
“The Rivera family is amazing, and I’m numb,” Schrader said, adding that Jordyn Rivera traveled to the three-day music festival with her mother because she loved country music.
In a family statement, her parents said they were always so proud of their daughter.
“She had a love for Jesus, family and many others,” the statement read. “She had a gift to reach out to others and loved to bring people together. Her beautiful smile and mesmerizing eyes lit up any room.”
Rivera was a senior health care management major at California State University, San Bernardino. She was also a member of CSUSB’s chapter of Eta Sigma Gamma, the national health education honor society.
Tomas Morales, university president, sent a message Tuesday to colleagues and students mourning Rivera’s death.
“As one of her faculty members noted, we will remember and treasure her for her warmth, optimism, energy and kindness,” Morales wrote. “This is a devastating loss for the entire CSUSB family. In this time of grief, our thoughts and prayers are with Jordyn’s family, friends and all who knew her.”
Jonah Hamilton, a childhood friend, said Rivera loved God, and lived out her faith to love others.
“She was a very genuine and caring person,” Hamilton said. “Very close to her family.”
A GoFundMe page set up by Schrader to assist the family with burial arrangements had raised more than $31,000 as of 4 p.m. Friday.
“We will honor our daughter and continue to live our lives just the way she did, with love and contentment,” the family statement read.
