Man shot, killed at downtown motel identified

The man shot and killed at a motel in downtown Las Vegas Wednesday morning has been identified by the Clark County coroner.

Pedro Munoz Rodriguez, 37, whose city of residence is unknown, was shot just before 2 a.m. at Safari Motel, 2001 Fremont St., near the intersection with Bruce Street.

Rodriguez died of a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the coroner.

It all started when a driver got out of a car and into an argument with Rodriguez who was standing in the doorway of motel Room 111, police said. The driver got back into the car, got a gun and opened fire, striking Rodriguez.

The gunman then drove off in a white four-door sedan with dark tinted windows. The car was last seen traveling east on Fremont Street.

Rodriguez was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The driver is described as a tall, skinny Hispanic or Filipino man in his 20s, police said. He was wearing a black hat, white T-shirt and a black-hooded sweatshirt, police said.
