Police: Argument with roommate ends in fatal stabbing

A 20-year-old woman is suspected of stabbing her 63-year-old roommate to death Wednesday during an argument in their east Las Vegas apartment, police said.

Teresa Gonzales was identified by the Clark County coroner’s office Thursday as the woman who was killed.

Hailey Brown was arrested at the scene and booked into the Clark County Detention Center, the Metropolitan Police Department said. She faces a charge of open murder, among others.

According to Metro, officers responded to reports of a fight in a home in the 2200 block of Steele Street, near North Nellis Boulevard and East Judson Avenue, just before 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers arrived to find Gonzales unresponsive and suffering from apparent stab wounds. Gonzales was taken to University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 2:37 a.m., the coroner’s office said.

Brown, who remained in custody, also faces a charge of child abuse or neglect, court records show. Her next court date is set for Sept. 27.
