A woman is in custody after a barricade situation stemming from a domestic disturbance with her father at University Medical Center on Friday morning, Las Vegas police said.

Police were called to UMC, at 1800 W Charleston Blvd., around 5:30 a.m. for a domestic disturbance after the woman allegedly had inflicted a non-life-threatening head injury to her father. The armed woman barricaded herself in her car outside of the hospital’s Adult Emergency Department after the man called police from the hospital, according to Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Aden Ocampo-Gomez.

South Tonopah Drive was shut down in both directions between Alta Drive and Charleston for nearly three hours while SWAT units and Metro officers negotiated with the woman. The trauma unit on the other side of UMC was not affected.

The woman was taken into custody at 8:10 a.m., police said.

In a statement, UMC said its public safety unit worked closely with Metro during the incident and that its officers “were fully prepared for the situation and responded rapidly to ensure the safety of patients, visitors and employees.”
