California man accused of Las Vegas carjacking in arrest report
A California man is accused of carjacking an SUV with two women inside before dropping them off, crashing the car and running onto a Las Vegas Strip hotel’s golf course, police records show.
Vincent Hobbs, 33, of Long Beach, California, allegedly got into the driver’s seat of a running 2015 Nissan Pathfinder about 7:50 a.m. Sunday at a convenience store near Paradise Road and Elvis Presley Boulevard, a Metropolitan Police Department arrest report said.
A woman and her mother were inside the SUV while the woman’s sister bought snacks at the store. Police said the man drove off and pulled a knife on the women.
The women didn’t know where the man drove them because they are not from Las Vegas, the report said.
The man eventually told the women to get out of the Nissan near Industrial Road and Sahara Avenue. They did and he drove away.
A Metro sergeant saw the SUV driving recklessly before causing a 2017 Hyundai Elantra to crash at the intersection of Desert Inn and Paradise roads, the report states. The Hyundai’s driver was hospitalized at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, but was later released.
The Pathfinder was found abandoned, and police saw a man running from the area and hopping a wall onto the golf course at Wynn Las Vegas, 3131 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Metro contacted hotel security, who on surveillance camera footage spotted a man bleeding from his head and running through the golf course.
Security officials took the man into custody about 8:45 a.m. near Koval Lane and Sands Avenue.
According to the report, Hobbs told police he was at the convenience store, “but he found a ‘joint’ in the bathroom, smoked it and does not remember anything else that happened after.”
Hobbs is being held in Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of grand larceny of an automobile, second-degree kidnapping with a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene of an injury crash. Hobbs’ bail was set at $1 million, jail records show.
