Habitual criminal in Reno faces 20 years in prison
RENO — A habitual criminal in Reno has been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison after his latest felony conviction for eluding law officers.
Prosecutors say 32-year-old Matthew Williams’ criminal history includes 13 previous felony convictions, ranges from burglary, theft, and forgery, to grand larceny and possession of a controlled substance.
The Nevada Highway Patrol says Williams was going 90 mph on Interstate 580 south of Reno when he was pulled over in January 2015.
Williams gave a California ID to the trooper who determined he was wanted on an outstanding burglary warrant out of California.
Williams drove off and eventually crashed, but was gone when troopers arrived.
He was arrested again last September after a routine traffic stop.
Washoe District Judge Linda Stiglich said Thursday he’ll have to serve at five years before he’s considered for parole.
