Henderson police hold Metro officer on lewdness with a minor charges

Daniel Kelly (Henderson Police Department)

A Metropolitan Police Department officer was arrested by Henderson police on Wednesday and faces multiple charges of lewdness with a girl under 14, officials said.

Daniel Kelly, 35, was arrested a day after Henderson police received a referral from Clark County Child Protective Services regarding the possible sexual abuse of a young girl, according to his arrest report.

The girl told police that on June 16 Kelly “groped” her multiple times and made her touch his genitals at a home in Henderson. The girl was not related to Kelly, the report said.

In an email Thursday, Metro acknowledged Kelly’s arrest and said he had been employed by the department since 2017. His most recent assignment was to the Enterprise area command’s community policing division, the department said.

He has been relieved of duty pending the outcome of the criminal investigation, Metro said.

According to the arrest report, Kelly was interviewed by Henderson police at Metro’s Enterprise area command and denied all the allegations.

Kelly faces five counts of lewdness with child under 14, court records show.

He remained in the Henderson Detention Center on Thursday without bail, jail records show. Court records do not show any prior arrests for Kelly in Clark County.

He is due to appear in court on Wednesday.
