Police investigate shooting near downtown Las Vegas

Las Vegas police are investigating two apartments at a Siegel Suites that may be connected to a shooting near the downtown area.

Police responded to the 600 block of Las Vegas Boulevard North, near Bonanza Road, around 9 a.m. Friday after multiple gunshots were heard.

A black man who appeared to be in his 30s or 40s was taken to University Medical Center with an apparent gunshot wound, Metro Lt. Mark Lourenco said. The man was transported in critical condition and was in surgery as of 10:45 a.m., Lourenco said.

What appeared to be a blue hat and jacket could be seen in a taped off lot next to the 7-Eleven store on the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard North and Bonanza Road.

Witnesses directed police to two apartments at the Siegel Suites, 700 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Witnesses told police that they saw people run toward the apartments, police said. Police will begin their investigation at the apartments to determine whether they are involved.

The two people originally detained in connection with the shooting since have been released and were not connected to the incident, Lourenco said.

This is an ongoing investigation. Police advise people to avoid the area.
