UNLV police investigate shooting threat found on bathroom wall

Updated October 14, 2019 - 4:56 pm

University Police Services officers are investigating a shooting threat written on the wall of a bathroom stall at UNLV.

A photo of the threat, which indicates that a shooting will happen Wednesday, has been circulating on social media. It features a racial slur and targets supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

University police are investigating in conjunction with local law enforcement, said Associate Vice President and Director of University Police Services Adam Garcia.

The department has not been able to substantiate the threat and has no other information regarding its credibility.

Garcia said students should report to campus police anything that appears to be amiss or out of place. Individuals may call University Police Services at 702-895-3668 or report tips through the RebelSAFE app.

A statement from the university said additional officers will be on campus. While the university will remain open, the statement asks “faculty, staff, and the administration to be flexible for those who choose not to come to campus on Wednesday.”
