Corned beef and cabbage, anyone?
Bev Greer is looking for restaurants that serve corned beef and cabbage all year round, not just on St. Patrick’s Day. And, true to form, her fellow Taste of the Town readers have several suggestions.
“Always on the menu at McMullan’s Irish Pub,” 4650 W. Tropicana Ave., emailed Ruth Jagodzinski, whose suggestion was seconded by Elizabeth More. Gloria Meyers recommended Three Angry Wives Pub (my favorite pub name, by the way) at 8820 W. Charleston Blvd. Bob Loch said it’s available on Tuesdays at Johnny Mac’s at 842 S. Boulder Highway in Henderson. Helene Gottlieb wrote that it’s served every Thursday on the buffet at Arizona Charlie’s Decatur at 740 S. Decatur Blvd., and Aimee Stephens of Station Casinos said it’s on the buffet during “A Taste of New York” night every Tuesday at the Feast Buffet at Green Valley Ranch, 2300 Paseo Verde Parkway in Henderson. …
Frequent readers of this column know that I often comment on how much I learn from readers, and here’s another example: When Bob Stevens emailed in search of a local restaurant that serves Cornish pasties I wasn’t real optimistic because this has been a frequent request that has come up mostly dry, with the exception of a couple of English restaurants. Hope springs eternal, however, and for good reason. Readers informed me about a new place in town, the Cornish Pasty Co. at 953 E. Sahara Ave., in the Commercial Center. It turns out that it’s a branch of an Arizona company founded by a native of Cornwall in 2005. Accordingly, they’re not exactly the same as those lamented by transplanted Yoopers (those would be residents of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan), but reader John LaCosse advises me that “they do the trick.” The Cornish Pasty Co. also was recommended by Laura McKenzie-Soto, Karen Daily and Nancy Nolette. …
A note on last week’s potato-pancake recipe: Klaus Altemueller said his mother’s recipe uses baking powder, not baking soda as stated, and it should be added if the pancakes are too thin.
