Here’s the scoop on Red Velvet ice cream

It wasn’t long ago that the more elaborate ice-cream flavors were available only in dedicated shops, but supermarkets have moved well beyond vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. A case in point is Blue Bunny Red Velvet Ice Cream, sought by Dee Hopkins. Karen Lotspiech, Mary Halwix and Heather King found it at various Walmart Supercenters, and King also found it at Smith’s at 4665 E. Sunset Road in Henderson. Lotspiech said Walmart also has the Blue Bunny pops Hopkins also is seeking. …

And after a few months of searching, I finally found Graeter’s Ice Cream, at Smith’s at 55 S. Valle Verde Parkway in Henderson. The ice cream, made by a French-pot process in Cincinnati since 1870, has attracted national attention during the past few years. I can recommend coconut chocolate chip and mint chocolate chip. …

For John Dugan, Ro Segel, James Rehrauer, Nancy Hazelet and King emailed that Buffalo favorite Sahlen’s hot dogs are not available in Las Vegas. King and Rehrauer recommended www.BuffaloFoods.com (716-892-5355). Hazelet said the closest source she’s found is Ted’s Jumbo Red Hots at 1755 E. Broadway in Tempe, Ariz. For Carolyn Anderson, Julie Larson emailed that Wonder Thin-Sliced Sandwich Bread also was her husband’s favorite. He found it’s not made anymore, she said, but that Sara Lee Sandwich White, available at Food 4 Less at 3250 E. Flamingo Road and Sam’s Club at 5101 S. Pecos Road, is similar. …
