Readers dish on hash browns

Two weeks ago we had reader suggestions for good breakfast spots for Brad Dunaway; today more weigh in with the shredded-potato hash browns Dunaway is seeking.

Shelley Pulcini-Corso recommended The Maple Tree at 6000 Spring Mountain Road and the ’50s Diner at 5693 S. Jones Blvd., noting that hash browns have to be requested at the latter. Sharon Cline suggested the Omelet House Summerlin, 2227 N. Rampart Blvd., where she said they also have to be requested. John Hillbrook recommended The Original Sunrise Cafe, 8975 S. Eastern Ave. Shannon Wright and Pat Brown suggested the Sourdough Cafe at Arizona Charlie’s, which is at 740 S. Decatur Blvd. and 4575 Boulder Highway.

Also, Toni Fahnestock suggested Blueberry Hill, which has multiple locations in the valley, and Mel’s Diner at 558 Nevada Highway in Boulder City. Don Kyle suggested the Baja Beach Cafe in the Fiesta Henderson at 777 W. Lake Mead Parkway (there’s another Fiesta at 2400 N. Rancho Drive). Guy Roark recommended those at Denny’s at 7341 W. Lake Mead Blvd. (one of numerous Denny’s in the valley). And John Peters suggested the weekday $1.99 Early Risers Club special (for those 50 and older, 5 to 8 a.m.) at the Promenade Cafe at the Rampart, 221 N. Rampart Blvd. …

An update on split-top hot dog buns, for the legion of readers looking for them: Connie Hannon, a former Easterner who wasn’t satisfied with local rolls because the sides couldn’t be toasted or grilled, discovered some at Vons at 45 E. Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson and reported, "They are the ones!" …

For Diane Lynn, Hannon said Armour Chili without beans can be found at the 99 Cents Only store at 520 Marks St. in Henderson. …

For Carolyn Stephens, who’s looking for Inland Valley Frozen Mashed Potatoes, Jeff Farnsworth e-mailed that the Smith’s store at 4015 S. Buffalo Drive carries them. …
