Jingle bells, Santa smells; Easter’s on its way.

Wow. Sometimes it’s downright scary how those annoying little ditties of childhood pop back into the brain now and then. And believe it or not, there’s a reason for my musing. With Easter just 11 days away, his fellow readers have found hot cross buns for Joel Wiltberger.

Mary Sexton e-mailed to suggest LaPuma Bakery, 107 Water St. in Henderson, which she said bakes them at this time of the year. “I’ve not had anything that doesn’t taste great,” she said. And Jan Visser e-mailed that they’re available during the Easter season at Trader Joe’s and at some Smith’s, Albertsons and Vons. …

And speaking of spring holidays: A recent query about corned beef-and-cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day raised a couple of recommendations for Johnny Mac’s at 842 S. Boulder Highway in Henderson, which prompted Duane Cox to e-mail that while Johnny’s Mac’s has corned beef and cabbage every Tuesday year-round, the St. Patrick’s Day menu includes “the best Irish soda bread I have ever tasted.” …

For Brandi Segura, who’s looking for a traditional English breakfast, Michelle Bonelli and Lily Cusack e-mailed to suggest the Crown & Anchor Pub, 1350 E. Tropicana Ave. and 4755 Spring Mountain Road, and Cusack also suggested J.C. Wooloughan at the JW Marriott, 221 N. Rampart Blvd., which serves an Irish breakfast, which she noted is similar to the English style. …

For Pat Bottino, Roger Armstrong e-mailed that Penrose Pickled Sausages can be found at the Wal-Mart SuperCenter at 5200 S. Fort Apache Road. In regular and hot, pints and gallons, they’re in the potato-chip aisle, he said. …
