Readers point the way to sausage
Even after nearly 10 years of doing this column I’m frequently surprised by what draws reader feedback and what doesn’t. For Elmer Herndon, who’s looking for Colosimo hot Italian sausage, I received four replies — and two were from people named Colosimo.
Josie Colosimo e-mailed that she recently bought it at Smith’s at 4440 N. Rancho Drive, and has seen it at Smith’s at 7130 N. Durango Drive. Dennis Duran said he gets it occasionally at Costco at 801 S. Pavilion Center Drive. Rod Turley said he gets it at Lin’s Marketplace, which has stores in Overton and in St. George and Cedar City, Utah.
And Paul Colosimo, who said he’s a third-generation sausage maker, e-mailed to confirm that his family’s products are available at Smith’s stores, and explained the sporadic Costco supply as part of Costco’s “road show” format; the sausage will be available Oct. 8 at the Summerlin store and Oct. 22 at the store at 791 Marks St. in Henderson. He added that the Web site for the family-owned company is www.colosimosausage.com (where the sausage can be ordered) — and that Colosimo is the official sausage of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, “and whenever you go to a game you can enjoy our product there as well.” …
For Norma Lewless, who’s looking for restaurants that serve fresh lake perch, Twila Posch e-mailed to recommend the Draft House, 4543 N. Rancho Drive, which she said has lake perch sliders on the menu and a Friday night perch fry. …
For Brad Peterson, who’s looking for lavender honey, Helen Schussler e-mailed that she carries it (as well as orange, cinnamon, rosemary and chili-pepper honey) at www.tovahshops.com (or call 448-3663). …
And for Donna Snyder, Schussler said she carries Genmaicha tea, both loose and in bags. …
Bad news for reader Sandra Dolliver and others who are looking for Kraft Mohawk Valley Limburger Cheese Spread: Jane Zalla e-mailed that it has been discontinued, which was confirmed by Matthew Stitzer of Kraft Lehigh Valley in Allentown, Pa. But Zalla added that her family likes the limburger spread from Williams Cheese Co., which can be ordered through www.williamscheese.com (or call 800-968-4492). …
More on soft drinks made without high-fructose corn syrup: Georgia Ames and Russ Morgan recommended Jones Sodas, which she said are available at Kmart and convenience stores, and which he found at Target and Smith’s. …
Reader requests: Anthony Archuleta is looking for taco-flavored Doritos. …
Santa Savino is looking for Breyers butter almond ice cream — not butter pecan. …
Peggy Wade is looking for a local source for buffalo-meat hot dogs. …
Jane Karadbil is looking for Delverde or Ondine lasagna noodle sheets. …
James Tracy is looking for a local source for dried lavender for baking.
