Taste of the Town: 8-ounce bottles of water found at several locations
Minnie Mistretta agrees with fellow Taste of the Town reader Mary Gabriel’s preference for water in 8-ounce bottles.
“It’s all that I drink; cannot handle large bottles of water,” Mistretta said in an email in response to Gabriel’s request. She said she finds Nestle Pure Life and Arrowhead 8-ounce bottles in packages of 12 at Vons or Wal-Mart. Don Barrington saw Arrowhead in 8-ounce bottles at Smith’s at 10616 S. Eastern Ave. in Henderson. Paula Zimmer found the Kroger brand in a 24-pack at Smith’s. Richard Eisenbeis, Geri David, Ann Kaiser and Kathy Love found the Kirkland brand at Costco (with Eisenbeis adding, “but you’re gonna buy like 80 of them”). Love also saw the smaller bottles at Smart &Final, Fran Smith spotted them at Trader Joe’s and Jean Fris at Food 4 Less. And Bonnie Brown emailed that she orders from Vons.com, which has comparably sized 236-milliliter bottles of Refreshe. Barrington and Brown also pointed out that this is a good size for young children to carry and handle. …
For Michael Offord, who’s looking for lemon-flavored sugar-free gelatin and pudding mixes, Colleen Sams reported finding both in the Jell-O brand at Albertsons at 190 N. Boulder Highway in Henderson and Daniel Bellina found both in the Kroger brand at Smith’s. …
For Bob Oster, who’s looking for old-fashioned loaf, Chuck Weakland (who said it’s called Dutch loaf in the Midwest) emailed that although most supermarkets have dropped it, he found it at Albertsons at 2835 S. Nellis Blvd. And David Bourgeois emailed that it’s available at the deli counter at Smith’s at 3850 E. Flamingo Road. …
More on seedless rye bread: Eleanor Vasko recommended Trader Joe’s, which has multiple locations in the valley. And Annemarie Kubicek points out that some seedless rye breads, if their labels are carefully examined, are found to contain ground caraway seeds. “If you don’t like caraway, you don’t want it in your bread whole or ground!” added Kubicek, who, like other readers, recommends the “truly seedless rye bread” from the German Bread Bakery at 2237 N. Rampart Blvd. and 9255 S. Eastern Ave.
