EYE OPENERS

Elvis is in the amphitheater tonight via the classic "Viva, Las Vegas" movie at the Clark County Government Center Amphitheater, 500 Grand Central Parkway.

The film, directed in 1964 by the late Las Vegas resident George Sidney, tells the story of Lucky Jackson (Elvis Presley), a man with a plan to win the Las Vegas Grand Prix. While he tries to prepare his car for the race, he’s distracted by Rusty Martin (Ann-Margret), the beautiful pool manager. In true Vegas style, Jackson must win his love with his songs and dashing personality.

Doors open at 7 p.m., and the movie begins at dark.

An Elvis look-a-like contest is also scheduled, with multiple prizes up for grabs. Food, beverages and arts and crafts vendors will be available on site, and picnics, low-back chairs and blankets are welcome. No glass bottles are allowed, and only service animals are permitted.

AIDS/HIV fundraising gallery shows artwork

Artspace Originals showcases the artwork of five Las Vegas artists — Michael Wardle, Sharon Gainsburg, Leslie Rowland, Dray and Steven Spann — at the World Market Center, Building B, Suite 135, at 495 S. Grand Central Parkway.

Artspace Originals is a fundraising arm of the nonprofit organization Nevada AIDS Project. The group’s goal is to bring education, prevention and resources to enhance the lives of those effected by HIV/AIDS.

Artspace Originals is the only showroom in the World Market Center that exhibits all original works of art and is staffed by the artists who created them.

Twenty percent of the proceeds from art purchased at the gallery goes to the Nevada AIDS Project.
