'Fiddler' opens tonight at UNLV

The Nevada Conservatory Theatre production of "Fiddler on the Roof" opens tonight in the Judy Bayley Theatre at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.

David Brummel, a veteran of numerous Broadway productions, daytime soaps and "Law & Order," plays the role of Tevye.

The musical will be performed at 8 p.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 29-Dec. 1 and Dec. 6-8, with matinees at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sunday, Dec. 1-2 and Dec. 8-9.

Tickets are $20, $25 and $30.

Artist Max to attend gallery reception

Artist Peter Max will unveil his newest collection of paintings today and Saturday at The Art of Peter Max Gallery in The Forum Shops at Caesars, 3500 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

The gallery will host an exhibition with the artist from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Among Max's new works is a 6-foot-tall, acrylic on canvas, full-bodied Statue of Liberty.

Maggie Smith, the actor who won an Oscar for “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” in 1969 and gained new fans in the 21st century as the dowager Countess of Grantham in “Downton Abbey” and Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter films, died Friday.
