Food, music highlight North Las Vegas event

The third annual Tastes & Tunes Festival, featuring the diverse cuisine, music and cultures of North Las Vegas residents, will take place today and Saturday at North Las Vegas City Hall, 2200 Civic Center Drive in North Las Vegas.

Presented by the city of North Las Vegas, Tastes & Tunes kicks off today with a Cinco de Mayo celebration including live entertainment by Los Baby’s and Los Cadetes.

The festival continues Saturday with a variety of musical genres featuring Santana tribute band Caravanserai, Lil Rob, Cash, Prince tribute band Purple Reign, Xscape and the Bar-Kays.

The festival also features a full-size carnival and boxing matches by Barry’s Boxing club members, plus a marketplace showcasing dozens of craft vendors.

Event hours are 5-10 p.m. today and 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday.

Free parking is available at the Silver Nugget, 2140 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Jazz in the Park kicks off with Paul Taylor

The Jazz in the Park concert series opens Saturday with Las Vegas smooth jazz saxophonist Paul Taylor at the Clark County Amphitheater, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.

Taylor’s 1995 debut album, “On the Horn,” reached the jazz charts and created the hit “Til We Meet Again.” His most recent album, “Nightlife,” was released in 2005. Taylor is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas jazz program.

Show time is 8 p.m.

Seating for those with picnic baskets, blankets and low-back chairs will begin at 7 p.m. Food vendors also will be available.

Admission is free.
