After years of anticipation by local fans, Zippy’s is finally opening in Las Vegas.

The beloved restaurant and bakery, a Hawaiian institution, is opening at 10:10 a.m. Oct. 10 at 7095 Badura Ave., just west of South Rainbow Boulevard and south of the 215 Beltway in southwest Vegas, the company announced Tuesday. The Zippy’s in Vegas, often called the Ninth Island, will be the first one to open outside Hawaii.

“Zippy’s is excited to begin serving the people of Las Vegas on October 10th. We know that many of our fans have been waiting patiently,” CEO Jason Higa said.

“My father, Francis, and my uncle, Charlie, started Zippy’s nearly 57 years ago. As a long-time family business, generations of families in Hawaii have dined and worked in our restaurants. Now, we are proud to bring that same sense of ‘ohana’ (family) to the people of Las Vegas.”

On the menu; hiring fair

In 2018, the Zippy’s chain revealed it was planning its first mainland restaurant for Vegas, with a debut sometime in 2020. The pandemic interrupted construction, which resumed in summer 2022, at the corner of Badura Avenue and Montessouri Street in the southwest.

The new restaurant, takeout and bakery encompasses 7,000 square feet. The menu features saimin, chicken katsu, Zippy’s signature chili, Portuguese sausage and eggs for breakfast, Spam musubi platters, malasadas by the dozen and more.

On Aug. 15 at its hiring center, 4590 S. Hualapai Way, the restaurant is hosting a hiring event for kitchen, front-of-house and management positions.
