First Look: ‘Jack Reacher’

The story: When five random people are killed, the suspected shooter calls on former military investigator Jack Reacher (Cruise) to help prove his innocence in the film version of “One Shot,” the ninth novel in author Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series.

The buzz: Fans of the novels seem to be having trouble accepting Cruise in the role of Reacher, who is described as being 6 feet 5 inches, weighing north of 200 pounds and having a 50-inch chest. “He understood Jack Reacher,” Child says in the movie’s press notes. “He projected his vibe. But the only real answer to that is, go see the movie. I guarantee you will come out of it, thinking, ‘What was I worried about?’ ”
