The List: Latest DVDs, CDs, books, December 25

A look at some of the DVDs, CDs and books hitting stores this week:

DVDs

“Looper” (R): The life of a hit man (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) begins to unravel when he fails to kill a future version of himself (Bruce Willis) in this sci-fi outing reuniting Gordon-Levitt with Rian Johnson, the writer-director of 2005’s “Brick.” (“Looper” will be available Monday.)

Topping the week’s TV transfers: “Justified: The Complete Third Season.”

CDs

Various Artists, “Les Miserables: Highlights from the Motion Picture Soundtrack”: The music industry dumps some coal in your stocking, as this is the only new release of the holiday week.

Guess record company execs think you’ll be too busy guzzling eggnog and taking back all the crappy presents your in-laws got you (A toaster cover? Really?) to check out some fresh tunes.

But, hey, at least you can hear Catwoman, err Anne Hathaway, sing “I Dreamed a Dream” here.

That’s enough to make even the Grinch crack a smile, right?

BOOKS

“Luck of the Draw” by Piers Anthony: As part of a demon wager, 80-year-old Bryce is summoned to Xanth and given a young body, but in return, he must court an unwilling teenage princess.

Also this week, in “Past Lives of the Rich and Famous,” psychic Sylvia Browne shares detailed stories of the past lives of celebrities such as Elvis Presley, Elizabeth Taylor and Amy Winehouse.

Also hitting shelves: “Full Moon Kisses” by Ellen Schreiber; “Tell My Sons” by Mark Weber; “Too Bright to Hear Too Loud to See” by Juliann Garey; and “Whatcha Gonna Do with That Duck?” by Seth Godin.
