Andy Grammer will dance his way into your heart
At the moment, Andy Grammer is best known as being the man behind the knee-slapping, hoedown-hued pop ditty “Honey, I’m Good.” Even if his name doesn’t ring a bell, you probably know the song.
It’s the inescapable ode that’s played, like, every five minutes or so, in which a unicorn of a man improbably waves off another round at the bar, firmly resisting temptation, in an effort to remain faithful to his significant other: “Nah, nah, honey, I’m good/I could have another but I probably should not/I got somebody at home, and if I stay I might not leave alone.”
Yeah, that one. You’ve heard it. Everybody has. But while Grammer’s voice is ubiquitous on the airwaves, most folks probably wouldn’t bat an eye if they were standing next to him in the supermarket. That’s probably won’t be the case after he performs in Las Vegas this weekend with Third Eye Blind, Matt Nathanson, Lifehouse, Needtobreathe and Nick Fradiani at Mix 94.1’s Bite of Las Vegas, a lineup that lives up to the station’s moniker.
Mark our words: This time next week, Grammer will be well-known for his fancy footwork, with households everywhere hanging on his every move. Well, that is, unless he doesn’t make it much past Monday night’s season premiere of “Dancing With the Stars.” Whatever the case, Grammer — who apparently has two left feet but has nonetheless dedicated his stint to his dearly departed mother, who loved to dance — has got our vote.
“She would have completely lost her mind to sit front row at ‘Dancing With The Stars’ and I could feel that in my chest loud and clear,” he wrote recently on Facebook. “So this one is for you mom. I don’t know how to dance, but I’m pretty sure that wherever you are it’s going to make you very happy to see me try. I miss you, I love you, and I will be stretching my hammies to make you proud.”
