Get trippy with Portugal.The Man
Their frontman sounds like a lost Gibbs brother after having snorted up a couple of lines of Ziggy’s stardust.
“There’s a madness in us all,” Portugal.The Man singer/guitarist John Baldwin Gourley announces on “So American” from the band’s latest disc, the far out, fantastic psych-glam head trip “In the Mountain in the Cloud.”
His band channels that of which Gourley speaks in grand, lysergic fashion, crafting enveloping, otherworldly jams with Alka Seltzer-style effervescence.
Befitting its title, “Mountain” is a new peak for this bunch, a portrait of blissed-out rock ‘n’ roll painted with every hue imaginable.
