‘Idol’ alum Kellie Pickler still carving out space
Funny, how this “American Idol” stuff goes. Kellie Pickler is playing a bigger Las Vegas venue than Taylor Hicks, who ultimately won the fifth season of the talent show.
Pickler sings in the big theater at The Orleans, but it’s only for one weekend. And Hicks doesn’t come back to his enclosed lounge at Bally’s until Dec. 3, so “Idol” loyalties can remain undivided.
If Pickler still seems more famous than her songs, she put that celebrity to good use by shaving her head in September. She did it in the name of breast-cancer screening awareness and as a stand of solidarity with her best friend, who is undergoing chemotherapy.
Her latest album, “100 Proof,” touches on personal ground such as Pickler’s relationship with her father, who was finishing a jail term when she competed on “Idol.”
