Nashville Unplugged an interactive show

Nashville Unplugged is more than just four singer-songwriters doing an impromptu jam session on a local stage.

It’s a chance for music lovers to get an education, says Aaron Benward. He, along with fellow performer and songwriter Brian McComas, started the bimonthly music session about two years ago.

They invite two songwriters to join them, and the four do an unrehearsed, intimate and interactive show.

“A lot of times, people hear a song and they think the singer wrote it,” Benward says. “But most times, someone else wrote it. You really get to hear the song and the nuts and bolts that put it together, what was going on in the writer’s life at the time they wrote it.”

This style of performance is something that happens in Nashville every night of the week, says Benward, who is based in Nashville. And it’s not just with country music; the unplugged sessions cover a variety of genres.

Benward has a long history of performing and songwriting. For 10 years, he performed with his father as Aaron Jeoffrey, a contemporary Christian music duo. Benward also recorded and toured for six years as half of the Blue County duo.

McComas is known for his singles “Night Disappear With You” and “You’re In My Head,” among others.

Nashville Unplugged is scheduled for Sept. 16, Oct. 7 and 21, and Nov. 4 at Ovation in Green Valley Ranch; and Sept. 17, Oct. 8, and Nov. 5 at Santa Fe Station in the Chrome showroom. Admission is $5. All shows start at 8 p.m.
