Resolutions from top musicians in Vegas
In 2012, I resolve to let other people do more of my work for me.
Being a supremely disciplined go-getter, I’m not even going to wait another three days to begin.
And so in order to get started on this selfless, envy-inducing goal, let’s take a look at the New Year’s resolutions of some of Vegas’ finest musicians — honestly, they’re more interesting than me anyway.
■ “Here are some resolutions I’ll be sure to follow for the new year: Spend less money on lottery tickets at state line; eat less chips and do more sit-ups; create more music while listening to less crap; stop reliving the past and start worrying more about the future; start more productive habits, like smoking,” Jeffrey Madlambayan, Pan de Sal, vocalist/DJ/producer, Totescity
■ “My New Year’s resolution for 2012 is to finally get Avenger of Blood back off the ground and push ourselves harder than before,” Shannon Frye, drummer/founder, Avenger of Blood
■ “Dear 2012, if you are going to hand me the same crap I put up with this year then I hope the Mayan calendar is accurate. If not, disregard the previous statement and know I’m going to be working on being more positive … and also lots of new songs,” Paige Overton, singer The Clydesdale, Whiskey Revival
■ “Six years ago, my resolution was to quit meth. I did. Two years ago, my resolution was to quit smoking. I did. Last year, it was to lose 40 pounds — and it didn’t happen. It doesn’t help when you’ve got a 12-pack of beer and a 4-pound burrito saying ‘Eat me!’ Seriously, that’s next year’s resolution as well: Lose 40 pounds,” Gerry “Turbo” Proctor, drummer for The Vermin, Naked City Romeos, the Tinglerz and others
■ “Two solo EPs, one Big Friendly Corporation LP (due Jan. 28) and five Big Friendly EPs before the end of the year. And if I have time, I’ll quit smoking and lose 20 pounds, but let’s be realistic,” Timothy Styles, solo artist/bassist, The Big Friendly Corporation
■ “This year Jacuzzihidive has accomplished a lot as a band. We put out our first EP just under a year ago, toured the U.S. coast to coast twice, made a music video and sold the publishing rights of a song to a major television network. I’m grateful, and my New Year’s resolution is to do the same next year. Hopefully the world doesn’t end before I can,” Aily Iglesias, vocalist/percussionist/co-producer Jacuzzihidive
■ “My resolution is to eat and drink better. Not healthier, just better,” Jackson Wilcox, singer/guitarist A Crowd of Small Adventures
