Evening of poetry scheduled for tonight

Some of Las Vegas' most talented poets and open mic artists will participate in an evening of readings today at the West Las Vegas Art Center's Poets' Corner.

The free readings, hosted by Keith Brantley, begin at 7:30 p.m. at the arts center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

Maggie Smith, the actor who won an Oscar for “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” in 1969 and gained new fans in the 21st century as the dowager Countess of Grantham in “Downton Abbey” and Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter films, died Friday.
