RJ Mitte of ‘Breaking Bad’ has connection to Riviera

RJ Mitte has cerebral palsy. He was in “Breaking Bad.” He has several movies coming out. He models. He’s a motivational speaker. And on Saturday, he will DJ on the rooftop of Chateau nightclub.

Are you feeling lazy by comparison yet? I am.

He has other Vegas news:

Last August, Mitte filmed a Vegas road trip/coming-of-age movie at the Riviera Hotel called “Who’s Driving Doug.” He portrays a guy named Doug in a tale of love, drugs and gambling.

“Who’s Driving Doug” could be one of the Riviera Hotel’s swan songs. The last film shot there was Nicolas Cage’s “The Trust,” which wrapped with a champagne toast on Feb. 20. But it’s unclear which Riviera-location movie will be the final film released to the public.

“We spent a week at the Riviera shooting. We had a great time. They were really hospitable. We enjoyed it. We shot all over the casino, to a degree,” Mitte said. “It turned out nicely.”

I mentioned to Mitte the hotel is scheduled to be destroyed, but he already knew. He comes to Vegas fairly often.

“I like the Riviera. It’s interesting, because Vegas in the next five years is going to look completely different. I’m interested to see what’s going to happen. Vegas is growing like crazy,” he said.

He likes Vegas for the energy, for his Vegas friends, and for nearby nature spots.

“You know the mountain north of the city?” he said. “We drove up one night, and it was gorgeous. We could see all of Vegas lit up. I wouldn’t want to get that power bill.”

Chateau hired Mitte to DJ during a night when costumes are encouraged, because it’s the official after-party for this week’s Wizard World Comic Con (WizardWorld.com).

Mitte encourages everyone at Chateau to say hello while he’s there to DJ, which he described this way:

“It’s considered work, but that’s a gray area.”
