Lake Las Vegas to celebrate Mardi Gras today
February 13, 2016 - 5:05 am
Lake Las Vegas and MonteLago Village Association plan to hold a Mardi Gras Festival today and invite the public to enjoy the party from noon to 6 p.m. The celebration starts with parades at noon, 2 and 4 p.m.
The Mardi Gras parade will include guest celebrity performances from Strip shows, students from Thurman White Middle School's Academy of Performing Arts, students and artists from the Positively Arts Foundation and volunteers from Dignity Health. Also, there will strolling musicians, stilt walkers, face-painters, bounce house, bake sales, entertainment from the Positively Arts Foundation and health-awareness booths. Dignity Health and its cardiac unit volunteers will be onsite to help bring awareness to the importance of heart health with February's designation as American Heart Month.
Festival entry is a suggested donation of $5 to benefit the not-for-profit St. Rose Dignity Health and Positively Arts Foundation. The nonprofit foundation brings today's professional artists together with aspiring students to ensure the performing arts continue to thrive despite the financial difficulties that so many schools are forced to navigate.
MonteLago Village is at 15 Costa di Lago in Henderson. For information about the Mardi Gras Festival, visit www.lakelasvegasevents.com.
There also will be a Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball aboard the La Contessa yacht from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $89 per person and include an open premium bar, hors d'oeuvres, music, photo booth and party favors. Guests are encouraged to wear costumes and masks. The yacht will set sail from the Lake Las Vegas Marina in MonteLago Village.
